The North West Coast Candlelight Vigil will be held on Wednesday May 6th, from 6 to 6.30pm at the Gnomon Room on the Ulverstone wharf Precinct.
As part of Domestic Violence Prevention Month, National Family Violence Remembrance Day is the first Wednesday in May when Candlelight Vigils are held nationally to remember and honour those who have lost their lives to family violence.
For every death due to family violence there are hundreds of thousands of women and children with a lived experience of emotional, physical, sexual and economic abuse. In fact, one in three women in Australia have experienced physical or sexual violence from someone they know.
A warm welcome is extended to any member of the public wishing to attend and show support for those affected by domestic violence.
Advocates for Change guest speakers will provide thoughtful and challenging messages.
Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, and candles will be available.
This is a joint community event by Zonta Devonport & Cradle Coast, Soroptimist Devonport, Engender Equality, Family Violence Counselling and Support Service and Central Coast Council.
