Information:
Experience the thrill of the Hive Derby, where our current racers zoom across the 15 meter track at impressive average top speeds of 20 km/hr, crafted from our standard range of materials. Now, we invite the next generation of engineers and technologists to join us in an exciting challenge: design and build your own derby car from scratch! Utilize cutting-edge design processes and apply physics theories to analyze and perfect your creation. In these weekly sessions, participants will work with Hive staff and guest presenters to
work through the program below:
Program session timeline Date
1. Experimentation & physics – engage experiments in the science of motion in the
Science Centre. 8/05
2. Engineering – Identify mathematical parameters of vehicle. 15/5
3. Design – Conceptual drawing. 22/5
4. Design & technology – Plasticine sculpture and 3D scanning. 29/5
5. Technology – 3D scan and 3D printing. 19/6
6. Experimentation and physics testing on the derby track! 26/6
